Alternator

This part is essential to the whole electrical system of your vehicle. It keeps your battery charged, and delivers the juice to power everything from power seats to the on board computer. Your alternator should be regularly inspected and its belt replaced in a timely manner to avoid unexpected interruptions in your day.

Battery

Don’t get caught in the winter with a dead battery! We recommend an annual battery service and will keep track of when you had your battery serviced last so you’ll know when to have it done again.

Belts & Accessory Drive

An often overlooked system can cause an immediate breakdown with little to no warning. As part of a regular maintenance schedule we will remove the belt and check all accessory drive functions. Noises can often be bearings, tensioners, decoupler pulleys or the belts themselves.

Brakes

Possibly one of the most critical systems under constant attack from the weather conditions in Southern Ontario are your brakes. The constant use of road salt during winter months lingers around for the rest of the year causing corrosion problems for your brakes. At J&W even a routine tire rotation is paired with a comprehensive brake inspection to make sure all pads, callipers, guide pins, wheel cylinders [you get the point] are functioning properly. We are proud to use the latest in synthetic brake lubricants to keep corrosion away from moving parts. This is especially important with Hybrid and full electric drive vehicles that utilize regenerative braking.

Cooling System

Your water pump is part of your vehicle cooling system. Maintenance should include monitoring your antifreeze levels, topping up when required and having the antifreeze changed every 30,000 to 150,000 kms depending on the type of antifreeze your vehicle uses. Your temperature gauge is also an indicator you have a problem. If you see your engine temperature hit the red zone or the warning light pops up, turn off the engine immediately and let your vehicle cool down! Once the vehicle is cool, you can check the coolant levels and adjust as required but no matter what, bring the vehicle in to ensure there is not further issues. Water pumps can wear out over time and need replacing. You can also have a leaky radiator or hoses as part of regular wear and tear.

Differential

The differential is the component that allows the outside wheel to travel further/faster than the inside wheel when making a corner. It is located between the wheels in a rear wheel drive vehicle, or in the transmission housing in front wheel drive vehicle. All Wheel Drive and 4 Wheel Drive vehicles will have both a front and rear differential. The differential contains heavy gears, bearings and a lubricating fluid. The fluid level is very important and should be changed on a regular schedule. Any leaks or grinding/crunching noises coming from this area should be addressed promptly.

Exhaust

JW has invested in specialized bending/flaring & and end forming equipment to save you money and provide the best quality repairs. A factory exhaust system can be repaired many times at a fraction of the price compared to a full replacement. From full on custom awesomeness to basic flex pipe & replacements, we've got it covered.

We service all makes & models.

Fluids

Much like the filters that are working hard behind the scenes, fluids are the lifeblood of many systems. Fluid technology never stops evolving in this trade and picking the correct fluid is absolutely paramount. We stock dozens of fluid types to keep you rolling. What may look like a simple fluid top up could be a handpicked central hydraulic fluid to match the colour and brand provided by the manufacturer. At J&W, we go the extra mile to make sure we have the correct fluids on the shelf to get the job done and you back on the road!

Filters, Oil, Transmission, Engine Air & Cabin Air

Almost all vehicle functions are protected with filters of different types, shapes & sizes. Ignoring filter changes can decrease efficiency or in some cases reduce the lifespan of the protected components. Generally, higher quality filters provide better filtration and a longer lifespan. Operating your vehicle in a dirty, dusty, environment will reduce the lifespan of any filter. We always shop around to provide our customers with the highest quality filters at a reasonable price.

Shocks & Struts

Shocks & struts are vital to a smooth & safe ride in your vehicle. These components should be inspected every year to ensure there are no leaks or any worn out parts are replaced. Worn shocks and struts can make for an unwanted bumpy ride.

Steering & Suspension

This is located behind each wheel and is comprised of several parts connecting the wheels to the rest of the vehicle, and also carries the weight of your vehicle. Your suspension and steering should be regularly inspected. Signs of problems in this area are pre-mature uneven tire wear, rattles, clunking, improper alignment (steering wheel off of center or pulling in one direction) or the vehicle diving when you brake or corner. Steering can be affected due to faulty or worn suspension components.

Tires

Your ONLY connection to the road are 4 small patches of rubber. Keeping your tires properly inflated and regularly inspected for cracks and tread-wear is a priority for us! Even from the rim protective coating (that we special order) to the mounting and balancing equipment. We go the extra mile to provide trouble free tires for YOU.

Timing Belt

The timing belt is one item you do not want to break while driving. This can cause major damage to your engine. Most manufacturers suggest the timing belt should be replaced at least every 160,000 kms or 10 years.

Customer service is not a department, it’s everyone’s job.

Transmission

This is your gear box, which provides speed and torque. It’s a major part of your vehicle which needs to be in good operating order. Things to watch for are a delay when moving the gear shift from park to drive, or the vehicle is shifting gears too often/inappropriately. If you notice any or these symptoms please give us a call to inspect your vehicle. Delaying a repair for your transmission can lead to bigger, more costly repairs.

Wheel Alignment

We’ve all been there… that feeling of your vehicle wanting to head to the ditch or your steering wheel feeling off centered when driving straight. Your wheel alignment can be altered by simply hitting a pot hole. We can help with that! It’s important to make sure your wheels are adjusted correctly to avoid early tire wear.

Wheel Bearings

Your wheel bearings are a load bearing component of your vehicle, and spinning wheels and CV drive shafts create a lot of heat and pressure. Your wheel bearings are important to maintain so they can do the job properly. These should be inspected often as many vehicle’s wheel bearings cannot be serviced as they are sealed units. Our technicians can pack and grease them if they are serviceable, or replace them if required. If you hear an annoying whining\groaning sound from under the car this could be an indicator you have a wheel bearing going. Waiting too long may cause additional problems and increase the costs of the repair.
